It's Sandy here trying to get a last minute message out before taking off to the hospital to deliver baby #3. I feel so fortunate because I've been blessed with an amazing medical team throughout my pregnancy. It's never crossed my mind the possibility of medicine or supply shortages. Sadly, in other parts of the world, the situation is quite different.
The second wave of COVID-19 virus in India has resulted in a near total collapse of the Indian health care system with unprecedented loss of life and suffering. Children living in child-care institutions are more vulnerable than ever before due to shortages of medical supplies and lack of critical medicines.
The Kailash Satyarthi Children's Foundation have taken the initiative to provide lifesaving medicines, oxygen concentrators and cylinders to government approved child-care homes in Delhi and the National Capital Region. Each medical relief kit costs USD2200 and they are looking to raise funds for 50 kits.
