Gift A Blanket Drive

Gift a Blanket Drive, month of November

Last year, we started a new tradition here at Rugs by Roo.  We started something called the Month-of-Giving.  It was in response to the wild fires that were letting loose in Australia in around the month of January.  The Australian Red Cross was raising funds to support relief initiatives and we decided to donate 100% of our month of January profits to support them.

I remember feeling extremely nervous and terrified at the time.  Giving away an entire month of profits was definitely not good cash flow sense.  In fact, some might say it was a reckless business decision.  But you know what?  You cannot put a value on gratitude.  From our tiny email list of 307 people and our measly IG follow of 265 at the time, we managed to raise $1,602.  The results were beyond what I could have imagined.

This year, we decided to continue the tradition...

Mamas For Mamas is a national charitable organization that supports mothers and caregivers in crisis by providing ongoing support to individuals and families facing various poverty-related struggles.  Their mission is not only to offer support and relief by filling resource gaps, they are also committed to working with all levels of government and non-profit agencies to end the vicious cycle of poverty, mental health issues, housing and food insecurity.

For each rug we sell during the month of November, a blanket will be donated to Mamas For Mamas.  Our wish is not only to make a small difference in the life of a child this holiday season but also to create awareness on issues that are close to home.

I want to send a huge THANK YOU to Lorena Canals for co-sponsoring this event with us.  And of course, a huge THANK YOU to all those who purchased from us this month.  You have made a warming difference in a child's life this holiday season.

If you would like to make a donation directly to Mamas For Mamas, please visit their website here and also follow them @mamasformamas.

Check back here on November 30th to see how we did

Being a mother to three kids and a beagle, I understand the struggles of trying to find the best for my children. Instead of spending hours researching which rug to buy, I hope to bring the best to you so that you can go back to spending time with those you love.

My Mom's Story
My Mom's Story

My mom was born in Hong Kong in July of 1945.  Post WWII, life was a struggle because most families had lost everything during the war.  Everyone was focused on rebuilding and establishing a new way of living with very limited resources.  My mom was one out of four children and there was no money for school.

I know that the difference Rugs by Roo makes today is just a drop in the bucket.  Our Month-of-Giving campaigns are far from where I envision them to be to make the level of impact I want to make.  But I know that by introducing the awareness at the consumer level, we can start to shift shopping behaviours to drive the initiative and the support needed to bring down those numbers.

Written by Anjali, Kailash Satyarthi Children's Foundation US As 2021 draws to a close, I want to thank you for all you have done to support our work and to ensure that all children are free and have the opportunity to be educated and reach their full potential.  Together, we accomplished so much in 2021 for the world's most marginalized children.  I hope you read this end of year recap with pride, knowing that none of this would be possible without you.
