Last year, we started a new tradition here at Rugs by Roo. We started something called the Month-of-Giving. It was in response to the wild fires that were letting loose in Australia in around the month of January. The Australian Red Cross was raising funds to support relief initiatives and we decided to donate 100% of our month of January profits to support them.
I remember feeling extremely nervous and terrified at the time. Giving away an entire month of profits was definitely not good cash flow sense. In fact, some might say it was a reckless business decision. But you know what? You cannot put a value on gratitude. From our tiny email list of 307 people and our measly IG follow of 265 at the time, we managed to raise $1,602. The results were beyond what I could have imagined.
This year, we decided to continue the tradition...
Mamas For Mamas is a national charitable organization that supports mothers and caregivers in crisis by providing ongoing support to individuals and families facing various poverty-related struggles. Their mission is not only to offer support and relief by filling resource gaps, they are also committed to working with all levels of government and non-profit agencies to end the vicious cycle of poverty, mental health issues, housing and food insecurity.
For each rug we sell during the month of November, a blanket will be donated to Mamas For Mamas. Our wish is not only to make a small difference in the life of a child this holiday season but also to create awareness on issues that are close to home.
I want to send a huge THANK YOU to Lorena Canals for co-sponsoring this event with us. And of course, a huge THANK YOU to all those who purchased from us this month. You have made a warming difference in a child's life this holiday season.
If you would like to make a donation directly to Mamas For Mamas, please visit their website here and also follow them @mamasformamas.
Check back here on November 30th to see how we did

I have three kids. I also run an online business from home. The assumption is that I am the primary attender to my kids and that my business is secondary. I should always prioritize my kids over work and if I do need to work, then that's more of an exception than the norm. But here's the thing. I LOVE my work!

As I’ve been on my own healthy house journey, I have learned so much and I’ve come to appreciate businesses that are owned and run with our health and our world’s health in mind. Rugs by Roo is just that type of company, which is why I absolutely adore them.
