Step-by-Step Guide
Every home is different. Here’s how to choose the best fit for your space.
Step 1: Choose wall-to-wall or custom area rug

Step 2: Measure your space
Tools You’ll Need
- Tape measure (or a laser tool for accuracy)
- Paper & pencil (graph paper optional for layouts)
- Calculator
Measuring Simple Spaces
- Measure length and width along the room’s longest points.
- Multiply to get area in square feet, then convert to square yards (divide by 9).
- Add a 10% buffer for trimming, fitting, and pattern matching—even in wool, this ensures no surprises.
Tackling Irregular Shapes
- Draw your room layout and divide it into basic shapes (rectangles, triangles, etc.). Don't worry, at this stage, you don't have to be perfect.
- Measure each section separately, add the areas together, then apply the buffer.
Hallways, Alcoves & L-Shaped Rooms
- Measure every section including door recesses and nooks.
- Consider each as its own little rectangle, then total it up for coverage.
Remember, your measurements do not have to be exact. We are simply gathering information for a preliminary quote. Once you find an installer (step 5), your installer will confirm the exact quantity of carpet or rug you will need.
