Transitioning to Fall: Eight Tips to transition from Summer to Fall

I walked my dog along the Don Valley trail this morning and with the changing colour leaves fell on the ground, I am feeling ready to bid farewell to summer and welcome this season. I always remember fall as pumpkin-spiced everthing, transitioning to fall is also a perfect opportunity to change some of our daily habits and refresh our interior decor.
In this blog post, we will share with you eight tips to help you seamlessly transition to fall, including some ideas for changing up kids' rooms or playrooms to create a warm and inviting atmosphere.

1. Declutter
Before adding anything in, we always suggest declutternad take out summer clothes and summer decor. You can also take it up a notch and inspect all the toys and kitchen items for example, remove the broken and unused items from your space. Last but not least, recycle the items that are still usable for other families.

2. Incorporate warm colors
Fall is all about the warm and earthy hues of red, orange and brown. Consider adding these colours through throw pillows, cozy blankets or even an accent wall. In kids' rooms, opt for playful patterns with fall colours to make the space feel inviting and vibrant.

3. Layer with textures
Adding depth and comfort through layering with textures is the next step. As the temperature drops, these layers is also a great way to create a cozy atmosphere. Swap out lightweight summer curtains for heavier drapes. Consider adding plush rugs to your living room and kids' play areas.

4. Switch out light bulbs
This is something new we are trying this year. Warm shades of light create a warm and cozy atmosphere, you can switch your bulbs for 2700K LED lighbulbs or add dimmer switches.

The right lighting can completely transform a room. Choose warm, soft lighting for your living spaces, as it can create  a cozy ambiance. In kids' rooms or playrooms, consider whimsical nighlights or string lights to add a touch of magic.

5. Incorporate fall elements or seasonal decor
Bring the essence of fall indoors with decorative elements like pumpkins, gourds and autumn leaves. A beautiful fall centerpiece or a wreath on your front door can instantly set the tone for the season. Encourage your little ones to craft their own fall decorations, like hand-painted pumpkins or leaf garlands.

In your kids' rooms, let them get creative with crafting fall-themed decorations to personalize their space. You can collect colourful fall leaves with them and create art pieces to hang on their walls.

6. Switch up bedding and cozy up the bedroom
Switch out lightweight summer bedding for warmer options. Flannel or 100 percent cotton sheets and duvet covers are perfect for creating a cozy atmosphere in your bedroom. In kids' rooms, consider themed bedding that reflects the season, like woodland creatures or fall leaves.

7. Light a scented candle
Scented candles, essential oil diffusers, or a bowl of potpourri with fragrances like warm vanilla, sandalwood and pumpkin spice can play a significant role in creating a cozy atmosphere. Walking in from the crisp autumn breeze to a warm fragrance like this also add feeling at home for you and your family.

8. Transition kids' rooms or playrooms to spark their creativity
Kids are full of energy and imagination, and transitioning their rooms for fall can be an exciting activity for them.

Involve every child in the process, asking their ideas on colour choices, decorations or even DIY projects. Let them get creative with crafting fall-themed decorations to personalize their space. You can collect colourful fall leaves with them and create art pieces to hang on their walls.

You can also create a cozy corner of reading or drawing nook with soft cushions and their favourite fall books or art supplies.

In conclusion, transitioning to fall with new habits and interior decor is an opportunity to infuse warmth and comfort into your home. Whether it's adding warm colours, cozy textures, or seasonal decor, your space can become a sanctuary for the family.

When it comes to kids' rooms or playrooms, involving them in the decorating process can make the transition more enjoyable for everyone. Let kids be kids and encourage them to be creative in decorating and transitioning!
